The old shops and pubs of Nunnery Lane and Clementhorpe

Nunnery Lane ca 1900

We're still working on our project about the old shops and pubs of Nunnery Lane and Clementhorpe. For details see our previous blog post here.

The Trafalgar Bay pub on Nunnery Lane is our local history hub for this project, thanks to Sarah and Phil, and we're very pleased to say it has now re-opened, with distancing protection. We have a display there and we're pleased to announce that we'll be having sessions on Monday 27 July and Monday 24 August, both 2.15 - 4.15 pm. We'll be talking about our findings so far and inviting people to bring along any memories and/or old photos.

This will be the third in our series of books about the long history of our local shops. The first two, Bishy Road: a York shopping street in time, and Shadows in the Bricks: the old shops of South Bank in York, are still on sale locally on Bishy Road, at Pextons Hardware and at Frankie & Johnny's Cookshop.
