Boozing, booze and boozers in our area
In May, one of our history group members, Rob Stay gave us a fascinating talk about the history of pubs, brewing and drinking in the South Bank area of York. He ranged from Roman times right through to the present day, and clarified a few points about inns, taverns, pubs, beerhouses, alehouses and tippling houses on the way.

Rob divided South Bank into three areas, each with their own characteristics:
-
Blossom St, The Mount and Tadcaster Rd
-
Clementhorpe and Bishopthorpe Rd
-
The Nunnery Lane area
