Local History Event in Clementhorpe

Do you live in the Clementhorpe area of York? You might have been to one of our events or displays, for example at the Slip Inn. Have you ever wondered about the history of your house in the area? Would you like to explore it through time, and find out who was living there?

AGM draft flyer croppedWe’re holding a new free drop-in local history event on Sunday 8 February, at Clementhorpe Community Centre in Lower Ebor St in Clementhorpe, York. We’ve been working with Clementhorpe Community Association to stage this in the centre.

We’ll be presenting displays and advice about

  • the old shops and houses

  • researching your own house

  • the old Clementhorpe industries by the riverside - for example shipbuilding, brewing, coal, Terry’s Confectionery Works, the large Co-op depot, chemical manure, printing and of course the Slip Inn

  • the history of the Community Centre building in the old Cherry Street School.

The event will also include a short AGM of Clements Hall Local History Group, so you can hear what we’ve been up to in the last year.

The event will be on Sunday 8 February 2026 3pm - 5pm, at Clementhorpe Community Centre in Lower Ebor St in Clementhorpe, York. If you have any queries, email us on clemhallhistory@gmail.com, or leave a message at Clements Hall on 01904 466086
